The numbers for children are horrifying. Half of all children in the world breathe air contaminated by tobacco smoke. One in every four adults is a tobacco addict, and this is the vast population to whom KILL THE ADDICTION is addressed. Using a totally new method, this serious work takes the desperate smoker – the one who wants to quit, has decided to do so, but simply CANNOT do it permanently – through all the necessary steps from nicotine slavery to stopping for life. Did you hear that? FOR LIFE. It all begins with what this method is NOT. Run your eye through that list. Looks familiar? These are the "other" methods, the ones that do not work for too many smokers. Then you are led through a list of most of the smoking myths…the most common of the many excuses the smoker uses to continue his substance abuse. Following that, the reader is introduced to some true facts about smoking…made to face them…even the deadly health issues and some of the most terrible ways of dying from tobacco. By now, the author has got the reader’s full attention, preparatory to actually getting started. This unique method first involves accepting a new way of thinking about the smoking addiction. No mind stretch. Very acceptable. Then redefinitions of quitting and stopping, which are key to the process, subtitled STOP SMOKING: WITHOUT QUITTING. This is followed by the method itself, the step-by-step process that takes you from slave to the addiction to the wonder of being smoke-free. The Enlightened Smoker’s Guide to Quitting $8.48 This revolutionary approach to smoking cessation is based on the premise that a smoker is more likely to kick the habit if he feels good about himself. When a smoker understands why he commenced smoking, and why smoking no longer delivers the same sense of pleasure and satisfaction it used to, the process of quitting begins. A state of mind called "pleasurable forgetfulness" makes the smoker less interested in smoking while absorbed in other activities. This proven but unorthodox method does not foster the shame and guilt so prevalent in other programs and succeeds where more traditional approaches have failed, producing smoke-free success for thousands of former smokers. |

Quitting Is Not an Option $12.99 “Have you ever been caught up in a downward spiral, not knowing how you could ever reverse it? Have you ever been controlled by addiction, desperately wanting to make your own choices, but knowing the cravings would dictate whether or not you did the right thing? Have you ever felt rejected and alone with no one to turn to? Have you ever wanted to give up? Rosalind Jones Larkins’ is an overcomer. Through rejection, abuse, molestation, prostitution, addiction, a failed marriage, and more, she persevered, working her way through college and ultimately living on welfare to finish her education and get her law degree. If a Caveman Can Quit Smoking, Why Not Me? $15.98 Without a doubt this is one of the most comprehensive self-help books on the market today. It’s not just another "how-to-quit" smoking manual. As tobacco prices continue to escalate, now is time to seriously consider breaking this cycle of addiction. In this book, Douglas uses a variety of familiar anecdotes to teach, admonish, and to persuade his readers that they can tailor a practical plan for quitting. His clear, descriptive language and candid story-telling will entice you to read the book in its entirety. Further, he introduces a proven strategy which you will find both useful and trustworthy. The information is both factual and credible, and his method for quitting is duplicable. Without bias, he describes a variety of cessation options for the smoker. However, his main focus is employing the "cold turkey" method for quitting the habit of smoking. This method not only saves you money, but it also minimizes the amount of psychological and physical discomfort associated with withdrawal and abstinence. The book builds on the premise: to successfully QUIT SMOKING you must STOP THINKING about it. |

How to Quit Smoking Even If You Don’t Want to $17.48 You can quit smoking It is not impossible I use to say, "I don’t want to quit smoking" I asked myself, "What if this was the addiction?" I then thought, I want to, want to quit. What could make you want to quit? My biggest motivation came from not wanting to be controlled by this nicotine. I wanted to be in charge. This book is about how to transform one’s thinking while simultaneously getting ready to quit. "This book gives you a step-by-step plan that will show you how to get ready to quit. Quitting smoking is like going into battle. With this plan in place you will be ready to win You will learn how to develop your willpower and tap into an incredible source of "Self-Power." This plan shows you exactly what to do. How to Quit Smoking Even If You Don’t Want To is in textbook format with ten brainstorming exercises you must do. People who smoke are often on "auto-pilot-thinking." This plan interrupts the "auto-pilot" and shows you how to re-write the script. It is true that you do not have to want to quit smoking but you do have to want to change something about how you make decisions. It is not complicated. As a matter of fact it is all very easy. By doing the exercises and following through with the plan you will "see" exactly what is holding you on to cigarettes. When you "see" what is keeping you addicted it becomes a whole lot easier to let go. This book will show you how to eliminate 75% of the nicotine fits, if not more. When you are all done the brainstorming exercises you will have made a one-of-a-kind, custom-made tool that will tell you what to think, when to think it, what to do and when, and how to act and how not to act. You will use thistool when you open your last pack. I often hear people say, "I have tried everything." My response is, "Have you looked in the mirror?" The answers lie inside you, not in the drugstore. This book is about transforming yourself from the inside. Some of the exercises can help you change other areas of your life that you are not completely satisfied with. My plan and method is about transforming your mind into one that can do what it could not do before. This is a serious subject with a twist of humor. I am sure you will enjoy it Do not be afraid of trying to quit smoking. Be afraid of what will happen if you do not Be free Go for it |

Fifty Pills $5.94 This collegiate farce directed by Theo Avgerinos had its world premiere at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. After a party thrown by his roommate, Coleman (John Hensley), violates their dorm-room probation, college freshman (at a thinly veiled New York University) Darren (Lou Taylor Pucci) loses his scholarship money and scrambles to raise the funds by selling 50 ecstasy pills given to him as an apology by Coleman over the course of a hectic day. While loading the pills off on fellow college students, friends, family, and Coleman’s customers — including a dominatrix named Petunia (Monica Keena) and an insanely off-kilter stock trader (Eddie Kaye Thomas) — Darren must also finish a paper on Dante’s Inferno, deal with his parents (Jane Lynch and John Kapelos) in New Jersey, who think he’s gay, elude the mysterious Soul Man (Ron Yuan), and try to convince his crush, Grace (Kristen Bell), that he’s not a sleazy drug dealer. Darren’s crazy day comes to a head when some stupid but vengeful thugs led by Eduardo (Michael Pena) track down both Coleman and Darren at their dorm while the stock trader shows up looking for more pills. ~ Michael Buening, Rovi |

As the effects take hold, the foursome find themselves at a shady inner-city bar, where volatile drug-dealer Mathias plunges them headlong into the most frightening night of their lives. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi |

Cyanide Pills $12.78 Just life anything else in life, rock & roll runs in cycles — close to 35 years after the Damned cut “New Rose,” British punk bands are still trying to sound young, loud, snotty, and tuneful, and after American punk-pop bands borrowed the melodic style of early U.K. punk bands like the Buzzcocks and the Jam while adding a few dollops of hooky sweetening, the Cyanide Pills have swiped it right back with all the extra hooks intact. The Cyanide Pills’ self-titled debut is full of let’s-pretend bile and song titles like “Cheap n Nasty,” “Suicide Bomber,” and “Interrogation Room,” but the tunes bubble along with a jumbo portion of energy, enthusiasm, and harmonies, while the guitars sound too playful to be menacing and the rhythm section clatters along with spunk for days. It’s hard to imagine anyone being at all threatened by the Cyanide Pills’ music, but if it’s not confrontational, that’s not to say it isn’t fun or effective. Alex Arson and Si Pinkeye are a potent guitar team, keeping the songs running in fourth gear at all times, while drummer Chris Wrist and bassist Alarick “The Trick” lay down a tireless, upbeat rhythm and lead singer Phil Privilege can howl and hit the notes at the same time, no small gift. The songs are rough-and-ready little pop constructions that know not to wear out their welcome (none of the 19 songs is over three minutes long, and eight don’t even crack the two-minute mark), and they’re full of choruses that are suitable for bellowing along while you pogo. And on the few tunes where they ditch their natural sweetness, they can rock pretty hard. The Cyanide Pills don’t have an original bone in their collective body, but they’ve learned very well from their predecessors, and if you can’t find your copies of Singles Going Steady or Pure Mania, this album will do just fine in the meantime. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi |

Quit Before You Know It: The Stress-Free, Guilt-Free Way to Stop Smoking – By Planning Your Relapses $3.98 A breakthrough plan to quit smoking–one "slip" at a time. Most smokers approach quitting with a "forever" mindset. Yet psychologist Sandra Rutter, Ph.D., says this "quit forever" approach is doomed from the start because it creates unnecessary anxiety and eventually sets up the big fall. For too many smokers, having one puff after "quitting forever" signals defeat and re-ignites the familiar give-up, light-up cycle. Rutter offers a better way. Slips are not only expected as part of Rutter’s Quit Before You Know It plan. They’re scheduled. This breakthrough method takes the stress out of trying to quit because it removes the prospect of failure. Relapses are methodically planned until abstinence is achievable. Finally, here is a stress-free, guilt-free, effective, inexpensive, and convenient way to stop smoking–one scheduled slip at a time. In Quit Before You Know It, Rutter presents her step-by-step smoking cessation plan along with tips for overcoming common roadblocks to success, such as boredom, overeating, loneliness, being around smokers, and suffering from depression or anxiety. |

Poison Pills $12.99 To the millions of Americans who suffer from chronic pain and arthritis, Vioxx seemed like a miracle. One of the most widely promoted and prescribed pain medications in the world — used by more than twenty million people — it was endorsed by the medical establishment and celebrities such as Olympic champion figure skater Dorothy Hamill. With annual sales of $2.5 billion, Vioxx became a pharmaceutical bonanza before being abruptly taken off the market in September 2004, after it was revealed that it led to an increased risk of heart-related disease and death. Drawing on internal documents, video footage, court testimony, and exclusive interviews, as well as three decades of experience inside the medical industry, Tom Nesi tells the dramatic story of what the drug’s manufacturer, Merck, knew and when. It is a compelling narrative of business and medical science run amok, with a cast of characters ranging from those at the highest levels of the multibillion-dollar pharmaceutical industry to research scientists, marketers, and drug company sales reps. Here also are accounts from physicians, lawyers, financial analysts, and patients and their families whose lives have been forever altered by Vioxx. Set against a fascinating history of the origins of the modern pharmaceutical industry, POISON PILLS is a shocking tale that involves the breakdown of the United States medical system, the failures of the Food and Drug Administration, and enormous profits made by a large pharmaceutical corporation at the potential cost of thousands of lives. |

Philosophy of Psychopharmacology: Smart Pills, Happy Pills, and Pepp Pills $70.98 Psychotropic agents have been effective for the treatment of the emotional, and cognitive symptoms of serious psychiatric disorders. At the same time, the availability of such agents raises questions about the appropriate use of what might be termed ‘smart pills’, ‘happy pills’, or ‘pep pills’. This volume argues that developments in modern psychopharmacology raise a range of important philosophical questions, and may ultimately change the way we think about ourselves. It provides a framework for addressing important philosophical issues in psychiatry and psychopharmacology. The approach is a naturalistic one, drawing on theory and data from modern cognitive-affective neuroscience and attempts to address objective and subjective aspects of psychiatric disorders, to integrate our knowledge of mechanisms and meanings, and to provide a balanced view of the good and the bad of psychotropics. |
